We perform a detailed scan to check the size ,shape and condition of the:Uterus,Endometrium Both Ovaries (and their follicles) and Pelvic area to assure normal anatomty and function first and detect possible pathologies.
This scan also named Follicle tracking, endometrial thickness and IVF scan
With follicle tracking we measures the size of any active follicles. Follicles are the fluid filled sacs of the ovaries that can contain an egg and knowing the size can help to predict when ovulation will occur. It is performed to estimate when ovulation is likely to occur and can increase your chances of fertilisation, both naturally and with the help of fertility treatment.
Aims of follicle tracking are 1-to Determine when you are ovulating so you can time your sexual activity to maximise the chances of conceiving naturally
2-to Ensure that your eggs are maturing and being released for fertilisation to exclude gynaecological conditions which can affect fertility 3-to Determine the baseline antral follicle count to help plan IVF treatment 4-TO Ensure that your medication is working if you’re having fertility treatment to stimulate ovulation 5-TO Determine when your eggs are ready to be collected for IVF treatment 6-Ensure that your eggs are maturing and being released for fertilisation to exclude gynaecological conditions which can affect fertility
With endometrial thickness assessment we monitor the thickness and appearance of the lining of the womb – known asthe endometrium. Examining the lining in this way helps to follow the changes that occur in a normal cycle, estimate ovulation or to follow the changes within the reproductive organs in response to fertility drugs used to stimulate the lining and ovaries. It can accurately predict when ovulation is expected and when the lining is at it’s optimal thickness.
Follicle tracking and endometrial thickness assessment are performed internally for maximum accuracy. Any growing follicles are measured, as when the follicles reach a certain size we are able to estimate when you are likely to ovulate. During the examination we also check to see if you have any fibroids or polyps present that may cause complications with embryo implantation.
